Zay Thompson
Zay earned an associate in arts degree from Highland Community College as well as a legal-assistant’s certificate and a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Washburn University. In the Spring of 2000, Zay interned with the Kansas State Board of Indigents Defense Services, Third Judicial District. That experience attracted Zay to public defense. As a result, he worked as an investigator for the Third Judicial District Public Defender during and after college. Zay joined the Kansas Federal Public Defender in 2009.
In addition to his work as an investigator, Zay trains local and national colleagues, CJA counsel and staff, state public-defender investigators, private investigators, and our Third Chair interns. Zay is also involved with the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Zay loves working with smart, creative, and empathetic teammates to make a meaningful impact on our clients’ lives.
